Operator - Technical Center

We are currently seeking an Operator – Technical Center to oversee both the operation and maintenance of technical equipment, as well as coordinate laboratory activities. Reporting to the Vice President of Research, Development and Innovation, the selected candidate will play a key role in experimental testing, prototype development, and facility maintenance.

Main responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain experimental equipment at the Technical Center.
  • Conduct biomass transformation tests, analyze the resulting products, and compile data.
  • Identify mechanical or electrical issues and perform necessary repairs or adjustments.
  • Contribute to the development of prototypes and new technological solutions.
  • Ensure the laboratory environment remains functional: manage inventory, purchase consumables, organize supplies, and uphold safety protocols.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on lab machines and equipment.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to optimize processes.
  • Document activities and results in a methodical manner.
  • Perform other related tasks as needed.

Profile required:

  • College diploma in laboratory technology, electromechanics, or another relevant field.
  • Minimum of 2 to 3 years of relevant experience in a technical or industrial setting.
  • Solid knowledge of mechanical components and basic electrical systems (motors, PLCs, relays, sensors).
  • Ability to read mechanical and electrical diagrams.
  • Autonomous, thorough, resourceful, and analytical.
  • Physically able to lift up to 25 kg.
  • Team player with the ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

The electrical engineer, based at the Laval office, actively participates in the design, integration, and optimization of electrical and automation systems for equipment developed by Airex Énergie. He/she ensures the performance, safety, and reliability of electrical installations, both at the design stage and during commissioning, in projects related to the recovery of residual biomass and industrial decarbonization.

Job Description:

  • Define the requirements and carry out the design and improvement of electrical systems for the equipments.
  • Design and implementation of DDC or PLC systems in an industrial environment.
  • Design of control panels and operator interfaces.
  • Selection and configuration of Allen Bradley or Siemens systems, and associated software.
  • Define the control system architecture and select equipment.
  • Contribute to training and building documentation for future users.
  • Assist in purchasing materials.
  • Supervise and coordinate technicians, consultants, and suppliers.
  • Prepare budgets and schedules.
  • Act as a resource person for all matters related to the automation of the plant’s production equipment.

    • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
    • Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec.

  • Support technical staff (technicians, draftsperson, and other engineers.
  • Verify and coordinate mechanical engineering services in collaboration with other project stakeholders (architecture, structural, civil, electrical, etc.).
  • Handle questions and change requests.
  • Participate in project kickoff meetings.
  • Participate in site visits and field surveys.

Under the supervision of the Vice President of Engineering, the Procurement and Logistics Specialist will be responsible for sourcing suppliers and purchasing general and specialized equipment. He/she will also be in charge of the complete logistics process of delivering our products and equipment, both in North America and internationally.

  • Research and develop the supplier network (North America and international).
  • Negotiate annual agreements for the supply of raw materials and consumables.
  • Negotiate prices and payment terms.
  • Work with the technical and production teams to source components.
  • Identify cost reduction opportunities.

The automation technician will be based in the Laval office but will be required to travel to various project sites. This position requires solid experience in PLC programming, automation system design, and troubleshooting, as well as strong communication and electrical design skills.

Job Description:

  • Design and creation of HMI user interfaces and SCADA systems.
  • Experience with Allen Bradley, Siemens, and other PLCs.
  • Apply functional descriptions of process controls and sequences of operations.
  • Participate in startup and commissioning tests, making necessary adjustments and providing required technical support.
  • Diagnose and debug technical issues during commissioning and provide appropriate solutions.
  • Provide user support and training.
  • Offer technical assistance remotely or on-site as needed.
