Industrial automation and control Engineer (Electrical engineer)

Airex Energy is a global leader in climate solutions for industries seeking to reduce their carbon footprint. Its proprietary CarbonFX™ torrefaction technology transforms biomass residues into high value-added carbonized products. The company has been operating a biochar plant in Bécancour since 2016. Its technology and expertise are also at the center of the Carbonity plant, Canada’s first industrial biochar plant, located in Port-Cartier (Northern Quebec).

The industrial automation and control engineer, based in the Laval office, actively participates in the design, integration, and optimization of electrical and automation systems for equipment developed by Airex Énergie. He or she ensures the performance, safety, and reliability of electrical installations, from the design phase to commissioning, within the framework of projects related to the valorization of residual biomass and industrial decarbonization.

Job Description:

  • Define automation project requirements
  • Define the automation architecture and strategy
  • Participate in the development of automation projects, from design to commissioning
  • Design electrical panels in accordance with Canadian electrical code standards
  • Write technical documentation and progress reports
  • Select electrical and instrumentation components based on engineering requirements
  • Responsible for the analysis and optimization of automated systems
  • Perform detailed engineering of assigned projects
  • Collaborate in the implementation and adherence to engineering procedures
  • Provide support for electrical estimating, as needed
  • Track and update drawings and technical documents
  • Design and develop various industrial networks, including Ethernet/IP, Profinet, ControlNet, and DeviceNet
  • Contribute to project budget and schedule estimates

Desired Profile:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Automation
  • Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ)
  • Five (5) or more years of experience in a comparable position
  • Knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code
  • Experience with Allen Bradley or Siemens controllers (an asset)
  • Experience with burner management systems (BMS) (an asset)
  • Proficiency with DCS control solutions (e.g., PlantPax and Simatic PCS NEO) (an asset)
  • Solid experience in programming programmable logic controllers (PLCs) using various languages ​​such as ladder logic, Grafcet, and FB
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Versatility, autonomy, and strong communication skills
  • Fluency in French, both spoken and written
  • Working knowledge of English (communication with international clients)
  • Willingness to travel (Canada and internationally) during commissioning.

The mechanical engineer, based at the Laval office, actively participates in the design, integration, and optimization of the mechanical systems of equipment developed by Airex Energy. He/she ensures the performance, safety, and reliability of mechanical installations, both during the design and commissioning phases, within projects related to the valorization of residual biomass and industrial decarbonization.

Job Description:

  • Assist in the mechanical design of various components of the biomass torrefaction process.
  • Collaborate in the preparation of plans and budget estimates.
  • Participate in the coordination of tasks for drafting/technical teams.
  • Supervise the quality of work performed on-site.
  • Write technical notices.
  • Support technical staff (technicians, draftsperson, and other engineers.
  • Verify and coordinate mechanical engineering services in collaboration with other project stakeholders (architecture, structural, civil, electrical, etc.).
  • Handle questions and change requests.
  • Participate in project kickoff meetings.
  • Participate in site visits and field surveys.
  • Other related tasks.

Desired Profile:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (an asset).
  • Knowledge of applicable standards and codes (NBC, NFPA, AMCA, etc.).
  • Five (5) years of experience in industrial mechanics.
  • Proficiency in French and English.
  • Versatility, autonomy, and strong communication skills.

Financial Analyst

The financial analyst plays a key role in providing strategic and operational support to the finance function, as well as modeling financing activities. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the incumbent contributes to decision-making by providing rigorous financial analyses, forward-looking models, and informed recommendations. They actively participate in financial planning, performance monitoring, and the evaluation of strategic initiatives within a growing company. The position offers direct exposure to senior management and a unique opportunity to develop a deep understanding of the organization’s financial, operational, and strategic challenges.

This position may be based in Laval or Montréal.

Job Description:

Financial Analysis and Modeling:

  • Develop and maintain financial models (budgets, forecasts, cash flow, scenario analyses).
  • Conduct profitability, sensitivity, and financial risk analyses.
  • Develop and maintain financial models for potential or ongoing projects.
  • Analyze monthly financial performance and explain variances between actual results, budget, and forecasts.

Strategic Support and Special Projects:

  • Prepare financial analyses for presentations to the executive committee, board of directors, or investors.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects (growth, cost optimization, financial structuring), collaborating with internal teams.
  • Participate in the preparation of financial documents for financial partners (banks, investors, funds, government agencies).
  • Contribute to applications for grants, financial assistance, and government programs (provincial and federal).
  • Support the CFO in the financial function within the company’s various projects.
    • Participate in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and short-, medium-, and long-term financial plans.
    • Monitor key financial and operational performance indicators (KPIs).
    • Contribute to the improvement of financial monitoring tools and internal processes.

Desired Profile:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field.
  • 1-5 years of relevant experience in financial analysis, FP&A, or consulting.
  • CPA or CFA designation (obtained or in progress) is an asset.
  • Excellent proficiency in Excel and financial modeling.
  • Knowledge of financial statements and accounting principles.
  • Experience in a consulting firm, bank, investment fund, or growth company (an asset).
  • Ability to synthesize complex financial data.
  • Analytical rigor and attention to detail.
