NREL’s Industry Growth Forum is the perfect venue for growing companies to prepare, refine, and present their businesses to a wide range of investors. Each year, the best presenters win commercialization services from NREL. Collectively, companies who have presented at the Forum since 2003 have raised more than $4 billion in growth financing.<\/p>\n

Company Description<\/h3>\n

Airex Energy is an equipment supplier that develops torrefaction technology to convert biomass to biocoal, a clean and renewable alternative to coal. Airex Energy was spun-off from Airex Industries in March 2014 and is currently building a 2 ton\/hr. demonstration plant in Becancour, Qc.<\/p>\n

Business Strategy\/Competitive Advantages\/Market Opportunity<\/h3>\n

Airex Energy will sell its patented CarbonFX equipments to wood pellet producers, wood product companies and wood recyclers. Airex Energy is working with several strategic partners to develop value-added carbonized products like activated carbon and biomaterial to widen the global market for its CarbonFX technology. The competitive advantages of the technology are wide range of biocoal end-products, from lightly torrefied material to highly carbonized biocoal, proven multi-cyclone design, smallest footprint of the industry with particle residence time of three seconds versus 30 minutes for competition, no biomass boiler required for process heat, bolt-on equipment on existing pellet plant, and easy to manufacture \u2013 no pressure vessels. Market opportunity is 700 biocoal plants over the next 10 years according to Bloomberg New Energy Finance, for a total value of $4.1B.<\/p>\n
